Sustainable Production and Product Initiatives
Smyth Companies is committed to operating as an environmentally-responsible label producer. To that end, we have instituted practices in all facets of our operations aimed at reducing our impact on the environment. A major pillar of Smyth's efforts is the company's participation in L.I.F.E. (Label Initiative for the Environment). The four main areas of L.I.F.E. are:
- Clean production techniques
- Energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission reduction
- Sustainable product design
- Management for continuous improvement
L.I.F.E. is administered by the Tag and Label Manufacturers Association, and all Smyth production facilities are certified under the program.
Environmentally-friendly Products and Materials
- Cut-and-stack paper labels comprised of post-consumer recycled paper
- Sustainable soy-based printing inks
- Film labels made from bio-polymers instead of petroleum
- Labels designed with a smaller package "footprint" reducing material usage
