Smyth again named "Best of the Best" by PIA
2010-11-30 ST. PAUL, MN - For the second straight year, Smyth Companies has been designated as a “Best of the Best” company by the “Best Workplace in the Americas” program. The program is administered by Printing Industries of America (PIA), and awards are bestowed on those companies that demonstrate exceptional practices in the area of human resources and employee relations. There are two main award levels; “Best Workplace” and “Best of the Best”. Smyth was also named a “Best Workplace” company in 2008.
PIA has identified eight human resource areas by which a company is evaluated for the program. These include management practices; work environment; training and development opportunities; financial security; work-life balance; recognition and rewards; health and wellness; and workplace safety. “In reviewing your submission, the judges found your human relations practices and their application on a day-to-day basis to be among the best in the country,” said Michael Makin, President and CEO of PIA.
Smyth Companies is one of the largest label producers in North America. Smyth produces primary package labels, in-pack and on-pack promotional labels and application equipment. The company has headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, and operates six production facilities located in Minnesota, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Colorado. Smyth employs approximately 430 people.
