Bill Hickey accepts the Austin Chamber's "Business of the Year" awardSmyth Companies was named Austin, Minnesota's Business of the Year by the Austin Chamber of Commerce at the chamber's recent winter meeting. Smyth has been a part of Austin's business community since 1971, employing 60 people at two locations in the city. Bill Hickey, Smyth owner/director, accepted the award, and said he was surprised to be so recognized. "I was listening to the list of other companies up for the award and thought it was good just to be nominated," Hickey said. He also noted that the award belonged to the employees of Smyth, "who live and work here, and get involved in the community."
Smyth was established in 1877 in St. Paul, and has since expanded to five locations across the country. They are best known in Austin for printing high-quality labels for a variety of companies, including Hormel Foods Corp.
