Estimator - Austin, MN

Role Summary

Smyth Companies is a print and packaging manufacturer, who has been in the industry since 1877.  We design, create and distribute packaging and labels for products sold by Hormel, Victoria Secrets, Bath & Body Works, just to name a few. We have 10 facilities across the U.S., and our Corporate Office is in St. Paul. We are seeking motivated talent, who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, who works well with a team, focused on outstanding results for our customers.

Smyth is seeking candidates who are customer orientated individual to fill the position of Estimator, supporting our Austin, MN Commercial and Print facilities.  This position will prepare price estimates for our Sheet-fed businesses.  In this position, the individual will collaborate and engage with Director of Sheetfed Estimating, Sales, and Sales Management on quote assumptions and pricing strategies.  Other major responsibilities include managing customer based RFQ’s, assembling pricing into Smyth’s standard quote format or a customer supplied format (RFQ’s), being the main point of contact for the RFQ process, engaging with customer portals for RFQ information, and assisting with the maintenance of the internal library of pricing and formal quotations.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Engage, manage and execute on quote requests from our Customer Service and Sales teams, assemble and calculate pricing, generate and distribute formal quotes, timely and effectively; manage through revisions to new and exciting pricing as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain a library of formal quote activity through electronic files and hard copy files (quote letters).
  • Work closely with Director of Sheetfed Estimating and Purchasing to source materials and/or obtain best pricing for non-standard materials or material volumes.
  • Work closely with Customer Service, Sales and leadership in job planning, pricing assumptions to deliver bid packages timely and effectively.
  • Support the maintenance of the processes, while compiling, tracking and reporting of results.

Press Assistant - Phoenix, AZ

Role Summary

Pure Pack Technologies (PPT), a division of Smyth Companies, specializes in the conversion of flexible packaging materials commonly used across the many industries Smyth services, the most common being the food industry. Flexible packaging is one of the fastest growing product segments in printing and packaging, offering increased shelf life, high end product appeal, and enhanced consumer-use functionality.  With two (32” and 42”) wide web central impression eight color presses, PPT manufactures products such as shrink sleeves, unsupported & multi-layer structures, zippered pouches, and popcorn bags. 

PPT is seeking a Press Assistant. This role is designed to assist the Press Operators in machine tasks to set-up, maintenance and the operation of the printing presses. This role will ensure tools and supplies are properly maintained; support the team in and perform preventative maintenance on press such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and conducting minor adjustments to rollers and other small moving parts. This role will recommend equipment repairs, parts and supplies; will issue work orders for the maintenance of all equipment in the department and administer preventative and operational maintenance to other department equipment as needed. This role will work closely with the teams and all departments to create an environment that supports workflow and continuous improvements of all pressroom operations, as well as prepare and maintain appropriate documentation for pressroom operations.

In our Phoenix location, we are seeking an experienced wide web press operator, who is a team player, strong communicator, is engaging, and will deliver results for our customers. This role will manage the efficient set up and operation of an 8 color, central impression press.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Set up and operate central impressions flexographic printing press to print designs on rolls of flexible packaging and paper for use in making products.
